This book offered many practical techniques to facilitating a group. This book was required for a class I took and we did have to lead the class is a discussion using suggesting facilitation techniques at the back of the book.

Remember this sort of things takes practice but the book helps get you going in the right by: The book includes some philosophy and theory, great insight into team dynamics and what team members need, and lots of activities and how to use them for certain situations.

A few years ago I taught an undergraduate course in Experiential Facilitation at Fort Lewis College and this was one of the text books I used.

Excellent book on facilitation skills, activities to engage small and large groups, how to facilitate a group through the 'rough and confusing' spots in a discussion, how to help a group reach consensus, how to put together an agenda and how to coach others in consensus building.

This October, join us in Stockholm to reflect on the power of facilitation and exchange knowledge and best practices with facilitators from around the world at the Global Facilitation Summit The IAF Certified Professional Facilitator (CPF) is the professional designation for IAF members who demonstrate the Core Facilitator Competencies.

A facilitator is a guide to help people move through a process together, not the seat of wisdom and knowledge. That means a facilitator isn't there to give opinions, but to draw out opinions and ideas of the group members.

Facilitation focuses on how people participate in the process of learning or planning, not just on what gets achieved. What is “meeting facilitation?” A facilitated session is a highly-structured meeting in which the meeting leader (the facilitator) guides the participants through a series of predefined steps to arrive at a result that is created, understood and accepted by all participants.

The collaboration that underpins agile development depends on strong facilitation methods that ensure that all aspects of development are approached in an informed, focused and inclusive manner.

That's a bit of a mouthful, but it’s still easier said than done. The titles below are my "go to" books for understanding the breadth, possibilities and challenges of facilitation.
